Mexico City, August 25, 2023.– Due to nearshoring, over the next two years there will be a growth in the demand for the installation of 453 new companies in the country. In view of this opportunity, the Observatorio Inversión Extranjera por Nearshoring 2023 points out the need to guarantee the supply of energy to new industrial facilities.
The study by the Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks (AMPIP) reveals that 91% of its affiliates have registered issues related to energy supply.1
One of the major concerns of businesses is access to environmentally friendly raw materials and fuels that will enable them to generate added value. Fuel represents up to 30% to 40% of operating costs. Therefore, savings in this area can make the difference between profit and loss.
Said Carlos Boone, director of Public Affairs and Business Intelligence at Énestas.
For this reason, he believes that one of the main challenges is creating distribution and storage infrastructure to ensure the supply of energy at competitive prices within the industrial real estate sector.
According to the executive of the Mexican company specialized in creating solutions for competitive access to raw materials and fuels, natural gas is one of the most affordable and sustainable alternatives for generating thermal or electrical energy. In addition, it offers greater security, price stability and a reduction in polluting emissions. This is beneficial for the development of the national industrial sector and, in turn, for nearshoring.
The rise of supply chain relocation has had a knock-on effect in areas where more industrial parks will be needed. Uninterrupted access to energy sources, such as natural gas, will be key to unlocking their full potential.
Carlos Boone insisted.
Énestas offers small, medium and large companies, located anywhere in the country, the installation of terminals and stations for the use of natural gas or other raw materials. It is a 24/7 storage and supply solution that guarantees operational continuity.
In this way, any company interested in setting up in Mexico will be able to do so. Regarding location, the choice will be based on logistical needs and will not be conditioned to the current energy distribution and storage infrastructure in Mexico.
This will also boost the profitability of companies and add to the competitiveness of the different states throughout the country, including the ones that enjoy less industrial development – such as those in the southeastern part of the country.
