“The three most important components in a greenhouse are water, plants or seeds and heating – the latter plays an indispensable role for crops to grow in a safe and favorable environment. Since a uniform and stable temperature must be maintained inside the greenhouse, fuels such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) are ideal for this purpose, providing various benefits to production,” explained Fernando Castro, Deputy Commercial Director of Énestas Mexico.According to the expert, another advantage of LNG to optimize crop development and generate better financial results for medium and high technology greenhouses, where tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers predominate, is the savings in fuel costs of up to 30%, and 50% less in equipment maintenance costs. This is due to its cleaner combustion, which translates into greater profitability and efficiency. 2
“Our vision is to create competitive access to raw materials and fuels, contributing to the country’s development by offering safer, more efficient, accessible and environmentally friendly solutions to enable more companies to meet their business objectives while decreasing their carbon footprint,” added Fernando Castro. Finally, it should be noted that the protected agriculture sector in Mexico generates around 39 million tons of fruits and vegetables annually with a value of more than 2.05 billion dollars*, while its exports reach 5.8 million tons with a value of 7.84 billion dollars. 3
