- In Latin America, natural gas accounts for 23.4% of primary energy production.1
- One of its main uses is power generation to meet the region’s industrial demands,2 since it has a higher energy yield than other fuels.
- Mexico, Argentina and Brazil lead in consumption, accounting for nearly two thirds of total use in Latin America and the Caribbean.3
- Natural gas has played an important role in the deployment of the energy transition in Latin America due to its low greenhouse gas emissions. 4
- In fact, it is estimated that it will surpass coal to be the most widely used fuel by 2040.5
- In its “liquid or liquified” version, it is also the most efficient way to reach all those areas that do not have pipeline access. This ensures supply and distribution and boosts the economic development of the region’s countries.
- • In Mexico, according to the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH), natural gas production is expected to reach 4,083 million cubic feet per day (MCFPD) by 2024, while imports are expected to reach 6,742 MCFPD.5
